Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU)

Location: Columbus, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Unit Details

  • Acute on Chronic Heart Failure
  • Post Cath with interventions
  • Chest pain, Unstable Angina
  • Irregular Heart Rhythms with Amiodarone gtts
  • Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)
  • Sepsis, Syncope, Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
  • Pneumonia, Respiratory Distress with Bipap
  • Seizures, Pulmonary embolism, Hypertension
  • Small Bowel obstruction, Lower GI Bleed - Intermediate Care Unit/PCU/Stepdown
  • Decompensated Heart Failure on Dobutamine gtts
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) on Insulin gtts
  • Atrial Fibrillation with Rapid Ventricular Response (AFIB with RVR)
  • Septic patients requiring low dose Levophed gtt
  • Thoracic patients with chest tubes
  • Cerebrovascular Accidents (CVAs)
  • Fresh Tracheostomies
  • Gunshot Wounds (GSW)/Motor Vehicle Collisions (MVCs)
  • GI Bleeds requiring multiple units of blood
  • Hypertensive Emergency requiring Cardene gtt
  • Occasional pregnant patients requiring telemetry
  • Acute Encephalopathy (some due to alcohol abuse) requiring Precedex gtt
  • Other drips: Dopamine, Nitro, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Lasix, Milrinone, Labetolol
  • All drips titrated according to protocols

Schedule

  • Weekend: Every Other Weekend
  • Call: None
  • Floating: Within facility/scope of practice and to nearby facility if needed

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in Intermediate Care and Stepdown units
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background & Education

  • Background check required within 30 days of start, must be complete prior to start
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts may be accepted if degree verification is pending

Health & Immunizations

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (with specific requirements if previously positive)
  • TB Questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations:
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap highly recommended
    • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season

Drug Testing

  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (includes Amphetamines, Benzodiazepines, Barbiturates, Cocaine, Opiates, Methadone, PCP, Propoxyphene, THC)

Other

  • References: 2 clinical references required by agency
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
  • Verification of most recent work history required (can be pending at start with proof of processing)

Additional Notes

  • Orientation hours vary by contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
  • Maximum Return to Orientation (RTO) time: 7 days
  • Holiday work expectations: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it; if 2 holidays, work both; if 3 holidays, work 2 of them
  • Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays in compliance may result in assignment pushback
  • Locals accepted at same rate
