Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Abilene, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Preferred start date: January
- Must be flexible to float to other campus or floors
- Must live within 150 miles of the facility
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Required years of experience: 3 years preferred (1st time travelers accepted)
- Prior travel experience: Not required
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor, Provider, RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor, Provider, RQI acceptable)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required as applicable
- AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 1 year of start; must be updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification (highest level) required
- State-specific checks for Texas (DADS Employability Status and Employee Misconduct Registry) within 30 days of start
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract)
- Fit mask (3M 1860 Regular or 3M 1860S), updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (PPD or equivalent) within 1 year of start
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination accepted)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31), with agency religious or medical exemption accepted
- Negative 10-panel drug screen with THC within 10 business days prior to start (no pending results allowed)
Competency and Testing
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Pass/fail testing for Telemetry RNs (EKG/Medication) with up to 2 attempts
- Color blind testing (online Ishihara test) required
- Skills checklist updated annually

- Candidate must review and sign multiple facility-specific acknowledgments and agreements prior to start, including:
- Vaccination Information Acknowledgment
- TB and Occupational Exposure Acknowledgment
- Patient Centered Pledge
- Contract Employee Receipt and Acknowledgement
- Computer Security Agreement
- Corporate Compliance Acknowledgment
- Confidentiality Statement
- Employee Misconduct Registry Acknowledgment
- Self Identify Form
- Relationship to Physician Form
- Authorization for Background Check
- Traveler Identification Form
- Orientation includes general information modules (~3-4 hours)
- Parking available for orientation and employment with no fee
Additional Notes
- Two references required within 3 years of start
- Resume or employment application required
- Must have valid government-issued photo ID and state license verification within 30 days of start
- Must complete all required documentation and testing prior to or within specified timeframes of start date
