Job Summary
Seeking a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience. This is a travel contract position on a night shift schedule in an LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) unit with couplet care ratios of 1:4.
Shift Details
- Shift: Nights, 18:45 - 07:15
- Call Requirement: 2 mandatory call shifts per 6-week schedule
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Float Requirement: Yes, float to assist other units (not take assignments)
- Orientation: 32 hours
- Scheduling Type: Self-scheduling
Patient Population & Unit Details
- LDRP Unit with Mother/Baby care
- Use of Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), both external and internal
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Breastfeeding/lactation support provided
Required Skills & Certifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in Labor and Delivery
- Traveler Experience: Prior travel experience required
- Skills:
- LDRP care
- Mother/Baby care
- Assist with sterile speculum exams (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
- Use of External and Internal Fetal Monitoring
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Breastfeeding support/lactation support
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Preferred: EPIC experience
Patient Ratios
- 1 nurse to 4 patients (1:4)
Unit Systems
- EPIC (Electronic Health Record)
- Pyxis (Medication dispensing system)
- SBAR (Communication framework)
Required Background and Health Documentation
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start (local, federal, national databases)
- Education verification for highest degree earned
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
- Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Required immunizations or titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years (for travel and acute care)
Additional Requirements
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (approx. 8 hours) prior to start
- Must comply with facility-specific policies including confidentiality agreement, medication safety training, and hospital policies acknowledgment
- Dress code adherence (hospital-issued scrubs provided; Cecil blue or navy allowed)
