Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cartersville, Georgia
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Unit Details
- Patient diagnoses include General Medical-Surgical, Peritoneal Dialysis, and Radial Bands recovery (no PCI).
- Floating within the facility as needed, within scope of practice.
- Weekend schedule: Every other weekend.
- No on-call required.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
- First-time travel nurses are accepted (prior travel experience not required).
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license for the state of Georgia (verification within 30 days prior to start).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required prior to start.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required if working in specialties such as ER, PACU, Critical Care, Cardiac Telemetry/Step-down, Labor & Delivery, etc. Confirm if applicable.
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke, EFM) may be required depending on specialty/unit; verify based on unit assignment.
Compliance & Orientation
- Full compliance with all credentialing and documentation required to start on time.
- Orientation scheduled bi-weekly; failure to comply on time may delay start by 2 weeks.
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment).
- Manager reviews candidate profile within 48 hours of confirmation to ensure fit.
Holidays
- If one major holiday falls during the assignment, the traveler is expected to work it.
- If two major holidays fall during the assignment, the traveler is expected to work both.
- If three major holidays fall during the assignment, the traveler is expected to work two.
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day.
Health & Background Requirements
- Background check required within 30 days of start; must be complete prior to start.
- Education verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
- Physical exam within 12 months of start required (not required by client but by agency).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months; TB questionnaire required annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer.
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination.
- Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) highly recommended but not mandatory.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31).
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable.
Competency Exams & Testing
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required by agency (not by client).
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry, Medical-Surgical Telemetry, IMCU, ER, Cardiac Telemetry/Step-down, ICU, PCU. Up to 3 attempts allowed; failure results in cancellation.
- Color blindness test required; alternative assessment available if needed.
Additional Requirements
- Two clinical references required by agency (not by client).
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually.
- Verification of most recent work history required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
- Minimum of 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
