Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (ED)

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a brand new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department facility near downtown with various local amenities.
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (10:30 AM to 11:00 PM).
  • Patient ratios may vary due to high patient volume; expect ratios from 1:4 up to 1:5 or more during surge periods.
  • Must be willing to float to other units as needed.
  • Electronic Health Record system: Epic (required).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
  • Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Completion of Harassment Prevention Training Certificate.
  • Experience with Epic Electronic Health Record system.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Emergency Contact Form (prior to start).
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year residence/work/school history search.
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (annual).
    • Education verification.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold accepted; Tspot not accepted).
  • Immunization or positive titer proof for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella (or documented history of chickenpox)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31).
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination required.
  • 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start date.
  • Completion of facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift.
  • Photo for badge (professional headshot, plain background, no head coverings).
  • Signed facility-specific job description and welcome packet acknowledgment.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score or meet Angoff score).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ER staff, expires every 3 years).

References

  • 2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years).
  • 1 professional reference required for per diem non-acute care roles.
