Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Medical Surgical

Location: Rochester, New York

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Available to work every other holiday, if needed

Job Description

• Provide care for medical patients including those with COPD exacerbation, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues.
• Float within skillset as required.
• Patient ratio during day shifts: 1:5-6.
• Charting experience with EPIC required.
• Medication administration including oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops.
• IV therapy with pumps and blood glucose monitoring.
• Vital signs, pain assessment, intake/output monitoring, isolation precautions, physical restraints, specimen labeling.
• Oxygen administration via nasal cannula.
• Feeding tube management.
• Telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG.
• Wound care basics (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains).
• Foley catheter insertion (male/female) and clean catch urine collection.
• Bathing and mouth care.
• Communicate status changes to RN/MD.
• Must be able to take own patient assignment with RN support.

Required Qualifications

• Valid LPN/LVN license in New York
• Minimum of 2 years LPN/LVN experience, including experience within the last year
• Medical-Surgical nursing experience
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
• Foley catheter insertion (male/female) experience

Summary

This is a 13-week night shift travel contract for an LPN with acute care experience in medical-surgical settings. Candidates must hold an active New York LPN license and have recent acute care experience. The role requires strong clinical skills, EPIC charting experience, and the ability to manage a variety of patient care tasks independently with RN support. Compliance with comprehensive health, background, and credentialing requirements is mandatory.
