Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work in a high-risk, high-volume Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with approximately 500-600 deliveries per month.
• Float between postpartum and antepartum units; may also float to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
• Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
• Use of EPIC electronic health records and electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) is required.
• Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
• Responsibilities include acting as Baby Nurse during delivery and providing newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
• Must be able to circulate in the OR and provide newborn care including eye care, Vitamin K injections, and newborn assessments.
• Medications commonly administered include Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
• Schedule posted every 6 weeks to meet unit needs; work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
• Average daily census: 15 patients; 31 rooms/beds.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Washington State.
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
• Experience working with high-risk patients in Labor and Delivery.
• Current certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring).
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale).
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
• Social Security Card (as applicable).
• Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must include SSN trace, death master index, sex offender registry, education verification, and other checks as required.
• Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires diploma/transcript or CES report.
• Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/subcontractors).
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
• Drug screen (9-panel) within 12 months of start.
• Immunizations and health screenings:

  • TDAP vaccine within 10 years or signed declination.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months; positive TB history requires documentation.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer or signed declination.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination.
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer or signed declination.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or signed declination during flu season.
  • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies.
• Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel candidates.
• Fit mask test required for travel candidates, updated annually.
• Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).

Additional Information

• Pre-approved time off is considered on a case-by-case basis.
• Candidates must be willing to float to related units and sister facilities as needed.
• Must submit proof of all required certifications and licensure with application.
• Candidates without required newborn care skills or OR circulation experience will not be considered.
