Job Opportunity: IMC Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:45 - 19:15)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Unit: Intermediate Care (IMC) / Stepdown / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Patient Ratios/Daily Caseload: Not specified
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Scheduling: Possible, discuss with manager
  • Local candidates accepted without radius restrictions
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required (no first-timers accepted)
  • Required Work Setting Experience: Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Telemetry unit monitoring
    • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Cardiovascular Care:
    • Post cardiac angiogram, MI, cardiac catheterization, and surgery care
    • Sheath removal and TR Band management
  • Gastrointestinal Care: Feeding tube care and management
  • Renal Care: Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
    • Accessing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration
    • Central line, PICC line, peripheral line care/management
    • Phlebotomy and IV starts
  • Medication Management:
    • Heparin protocols
    • Management and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
    • PCA and procedural sedation administration
  • Neurological/Psychiatric Cases: Craniotomy, CVA, neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
  • Orthopedics: Ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements
  • Plastic Surgery: Skin grafts, surgical drains
  • Respiratory Care:
    • Ventilator care, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
    • External CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
    • ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, non-invasive airway management
  • Professional Skills: Isolation precautions, wound care, wound vac
  • Preferred Experience: Cerner electronic health record, teaching hospital, Level I trauma center experience

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Active Illinois RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not mandatory

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum of 1 year of Intermediate Care experience within the last year
  • Telemetry experience
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Requirements

  • Prior travel experience: Not accepted (first-timers not accepted)
  • Background checks and verifications required, including:
    • Criminal background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks
    • Education verification
    • State-specific searches (Illinois Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, State Police registries)
  • Health documents required:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Fit mask test (3M 1860, 1870 series) or PAPR documentation if applicable
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Immunizations or titers for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Competency exam and skills checklist required for clinical candidates
  • References: Two professional references required
  • Badge photo required before start
  • Parking permit required (no cost)

  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrub color: Any solid color

Notes

  • Candidate may be called off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay for those hours
  • On-call shifts count as called-off shifts if used in lieu of cancellation
  • Candidates must be able to perform all core functions without restrictions and be free of communicable diseases
  • Latex allergy accommodations available
