Job Opportunity: PACU Registered Nurse

Location: Ventura, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a PACU Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of PACU experience and ICU experience required. This role involves adult patient care with a staffing ratio of 1:3. The position requires float capability and weekend coverage.


Shift Details

  • 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (variable start times between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM, Monday to Friday)
  • Weekend on-call duty: 24 hours per month
  • One weekday on-call duty per week (Monday to Friday, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

Unit Details

  • Patient Population: Adults
  • Staffing Ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients
  • Float required
  • Weekend coverage required
  • Unit systems used: Pyxis, SBAR, Cerner

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BCLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years PACU experience
  • ICU experience required
  • Trauma Level I & II experience preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license with primary source verification
  • Must be able to start by June 23
  • All requested time off must be submitted with initial application

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Emergency Contact Form prior to start
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • Background check within 1 year of start, updated annually (7-year search including SS trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, FACIS)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start and updated annually
  • California Medi-Cal exclusion check within 30 days prior to start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask testing updated annually (PAPR testing onsite if needed)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months of start, with additional requirements for positive or allergy cases
  • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (with booster requirements for low/equivocal titers)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (mask required if exempt)
  • COVID vaccination required; declinations accepted

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Advanced EKG exam with a passing score of 80% (78% for Peds/PICU units); maximum two attempts allowed
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with 80% passing score
  • Age-specific competency exam updated annually
  • Ventura RN Competencies Presentation and Competency Validation required prior to start
  • Mandatory Compliance Training for 2026 with QR code completion and acknowledgment submission
  • Annual completion of trauma education modules or valid TNCC/TCAR certification (except NICU and IPU)
  • NIH Stroke Certification required for PACU and ICU

Additional Requirements

  • Review and sign confidentiality agreement prior to start
  • Complete ID card and badge forms prior to start
  • Review annual handbook and welcome packet prior to start
  • New employee orientation attestation required
  • TB questionnaire required annually regardless of TB results
  • References:
    • 2 professional references for travel, allied, or per diem acute care
    • 1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care
    • Not required for non-clinical roles
    • References must be within 3 years of start
