Shift Details

  • Day shift, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)

Job Description

  • Position requires Neuro/Spine surgical skills.
  • On-call duty up to 6 calls per 6-week schedule; must respond within 60 minutes.
  • Scrubs provided.
  • Charting system: Cerner.
  • Orientation: Weekly.
  • Time off: 3 days per 13-week contract.
  • Accepting first-time travelers.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Must have Neuro scrub and aseptic technique skills.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency (score of 4) on Neuro Surgery skills checklist including:
    • Anterior cervical fusion
    • Burr holes
    • Cervical fusion
    • Craniotomy
    • Deep brain stimulation
    • Insertion of VP shunt
    • Laminectomy/discectomy
    • Lumbar fusion
    • Stereotactic radiosurgery
    • Posterior Fossa Decompression
    • ALIF (Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion)
    • Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS)
  • Surgery case experience required in:
    • General surgery
    • Orthopedics (including spine surgery)
    • Neurosurgery
    • Plastics (especially reconstructive; if no plastics experience, submit as screen)
  • Preferred work settings experience:
    • Inpatient
    • Outpatient
    • Teaching hospital
    • Community hospital
    • Children’s hospital
  • Experience with robotic surgery systems (Xi, Si, Ortho/Neuro robots, deep brain surgery robot) is a plus.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Certified Surgical Technologist license in District of Columbia
  • Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Demonstrated Neuro/Spine surgical skills, including Neuro scrub proficiency
  • Proficiency in the following Neuro Surgery procedures:
    • Anterior cervical fusion
    • Burr holes
    • Craniotomy
    • Deep brain stimulation
    • Insertion of VP shunt
    • Laminectomy/discectomy
    • Lumbar fusion
    • Stereotactic radiosurgery

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
  • Education verification for highest degree required by position.
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana).
  • I9/E-Verify attestation required.
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
  • Annual TB questionnaire and negative TB test within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon, or Tspot).
  • Immunization documentation required for:
    • Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 VZV vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept–March).
  • N95 fit test within 9 months of start and updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed).

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam within 3 years, passing score 80% or higher.
  • Color blindness testing (online or in-person).
  • General competency exam within 3 years, passing score 80% or higher.

Additional Information

  • Facility-specific modules (SITELS) must be completed prior to hire date.
  • Photo for badge must meet specific requirements (clear, centered, no glare, solid background).
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.
