Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
- Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (either day or night shifts). Shifts may rotate as needed to meet operational demands.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 18 months combined permanent experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in one location but can be combined.
- At least 18 months recent Stepdown or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience; travel experience accepted.
- Must hold a permanent Ohio RN license or a valid Compact State RN license.
- Current certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Successful completion of ECG rhythm recognition and medication safety (SafeMedicate) tests during orientation with passing scores required.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
- Immunizations and screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, with annual updates as applicable
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted)
- Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year, updated as needed.
Background and Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Comprehensive background check including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months, updated annually. Must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- References: 2 professional references from within 1 year of start date, from supervisors or managers (no co-worker references).
Orientation and Training
- Completion of facility-specific online onboarding modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
- Modules include safety, medication administration, and ECG interpretation preparation materials.
- Baseline competency exams on medication administration and ECG interpretation during orientation; passing scores required.
- Candidates with less than 6 months gap from previous assignment at the facility may be exempt from some orientation requirements.
Additional Notes
- Progressive Care Unit experience preferred but not mandatory.
- Candidates must be prepared for variable shifts and floating to related units as needed.
- Prior travel experience is accepted but not explicitly required.
