Job Opportunity: Ultrasound Tech - General

Location

  • New Haven, Connecticut
  • Will float between 4 nearby medical centers (within 5-15 minutes of main hospital)

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (primary shift)
  • Additional shift 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM as needed
  • Every other Saturday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (if scheduled, a weekday off is provided)
  • Schedule posted one week in advance
  • Guaranteed hours: Yes

Required Experience & Certifications

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Radiology / Cardiology specialty
  • First-time travelers not accepted
  • Weekend work required
  • Floating to sister facilities as needed
  • Must have active state license prior to start (pending license accepted)
  • ARRT Mammography (ARRT M) and ARRT Radiography (ARRT R) certifications required
  • Experience with Hologic equipment required

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist
  • Recent Ultrasound Technologist experience within the last year
  • ARRT Mammography (ARRT M) certification
  • ARRT Radiography (ARRT R) certification

Compliance & Training Requirements

Candidates must complete and provide documentation for the following (as applicable):

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions
  • Education verification and foreign equivalency evaluation (if internationally educated)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (annual update required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for certain specialties)
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Drug screening (10-panel) within 12 months
  • Various facility-specific training modules and attestations, including but not limited to:
    • Language Services Training
    • CAUTI Education
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment
    • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm (except certain units)
    • Stroke Education (except pediatric specialties and NICU)
    • CLABSI Prevention
    • Preventing Pressure Injury
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen
    • Pyxis ES MedStation
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability
    • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER)
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
    • Blood Administration Module (annual update)
    • New Employee Orientation
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for Ultrasound Tech)
    • Chaperone Policy Training (if gap >6 months or updated module)

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score)
  • Color Blind Testing (minimum 80% score; required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024 or later)

Additional Requirements

  • Must provide 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU/CTICU assignments (charge nurse references not accepted)
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for new candidates assigned to certain units (including Ultrasound Tech)
  • EPIC testing or training may be required depending on prior experience and unit assignment

Notes

  • Parking cost approximately $125/month
  • Scrub color: Teal tops and bottoms
  • Candidates must have photo ID matching legal name on first day
  • RTO (Return to Office) restrictions: absences longer than 7 days require approval

This position is ideal for experienced Ultrasound Technologists with required certifications and a willingness to float between multiple sites, including weekend availability. Compliance with extensive credentialing, immunization, and training requirements is mandatory.
