Job Opportunity: Laboratory Assistant
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Histocompatibility Lab Assistant
- Shift: Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM (5 days a week, 8 hours per day)
- No on-call, weekend, or float requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Case assembly and slide delivery to Surgical Pathology and assigned pathologist
- Arrange and fill surgical blocks; assist with moving blocks to storage
- Pick up STAT requests from Surgical Pathology twice daily (around 3 PM and 6 PM)
- Assist with changing tissue processors and H&E stainer
- Arrange and log supplies
- Perform other duties as requested
Required Qualifications
- Valid Clinical Lab Assistant license in District of Columbia
- Minimum 1 year of Clinical Lab Assistant experience within the last year
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Criminal background check within 90 days, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years
- Education verification for highest degree as required by the position
- Drug screening within 90 days of start (does not include marijuana)
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Immunizations and health documentation including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years (preferred)
- Documentation of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccines or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
- Varicella vaccine or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
- Valid driver's license if driving is an essential job function
References & Work History
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information
- For travel contracts, at least 1 prior travel assignment or 1 month of per diem assignment required
Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA or ARC)
- Other certifications as applicable based on unit or specialty requirements
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete facility-specific modules prior to start
- Background checks and attestations must be completed before hire
- Annual safety manual acknowledgment required
