Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty
Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Registered Nurse, Direct Care
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide nursing care on a med/surg unit specializing in acute care surgical patients, including post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients as well as pre-transplant evaluations. The unit is a mixed stepdown and acute care floor requiring close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication administration. This is not a PACU position. Nurses may work either med/surg or stepdown patients depending on unit needs.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage an assigned group of patients with varying complexity.
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and physician orders.
- Assist physicians with examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
- Monitor physiological data and intervene as necessary.
- Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products.
- Communicate care plans with patients and families, including discharge instructions.
- Delegate tasks to support staff and make referrals for patient care needs.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
Licensure & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year.
- Experience in an Acute Care setting.
Additional Information
- This position will not accept Operating Room (OR) candidates.
- Nurses from ICU may be floated to work stepdown patients based on acuity and skill set.
- The unit cares for both med/surg and stepdown patients, with assignments based on staffing needs.
This role is ideal for nurses with acute care surgical and stepdown experience who are comfortable managing complex transplant patients in a fast-paced hospital setting.
