Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT-NICU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: Nights
Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday; unit uses a self-scheduling model (manager will explain during call, but desired schedule not guaranteed)
Job Description
- Work in the Children's Hospital unit
- Must have Level 4 NICU experience
- Cardiac PICU experience preferred
- Clinical review and offer process with manager involvement
Required Qualifications
- Valid Pediatric Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia
- Pediatric Respiratory Therapist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Neonate patients
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) certification preferred
- Cardiac PICU experience preferred
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required
Facility & Compliance Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and abuse registry search (if assigned to certain units)
- Drug testing within 2 months of start, updated annually (10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl)
- Physical exam and immunizations/vaccinations including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer (positive required or antigen titer if antibody low/negative)
- Varicella vaccination or titer (declination accepted but required for clearance)
- Seasonal flu vaccination (no exemptions or declinations accepted)
- Professional appearance guidelines and compliance documents to be reviewed and acknowledged
- Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions and Mother-Baby units (not required for this role)
- Fingerprinting required for Behavioral Health candidates only (not applicable here)
Additional Notes
- Unit has a self-scheduling model; manager will try to accommodate but cannot guarantee preferred schedule
- Must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
- References and clinical evaluations may be required for credentialing
- Official transcripts required for education verification (photocopies not accepted)
