Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Tucson, Arizona

Job Details

  • Location: Tucson, Arizona
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract

  • Required Experience: Minimum 2+ years in Medical-Surgical (MS) or Telemetry nursing
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required (No first-time travelers accepted)
  • License: Valid Arizona RN license required
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - current, cannot expire within 30 days of start
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) - current, cannot expire within 30 days of start
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
  • Electronic Medical Record: EPIC experience required
  • Shift Requirements: 6-7 weekend shifts per contract
  • Floating: Will float within scope of practice; occasional floating to a nearby facility required
  • Nursing Model: Team nursing with LPN + RN ratio 8:1; candidates must confirm understanding of this model at time of offer

Orientation

  • Orientation held twice a month (dates provided by facility)
  • Full contract length commitment required

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks: Must be completed and cleared before assignment start
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by physician/NP/PA
    • Fit testing for N95 mask within 1 year of start
    • Immunizations and titers:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (TDAP mandatory; declinations allowed except for certain units)
      • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 3 months of start
      • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (proof of vaccination or positive titer; no declinations)
      • Hepatitis B (proof of vaccination or positive titer; declinations allowed with form)
      • Varicella (proof of vaccination or positive titer; no declinations)
    • Drug testing: 12-panel, must be done within 30 days of start
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30) or approved medical/religious exemption with facility-specific form
  • References: Two professional references from employment within last 3 years required; one must be supervisory
  • Employment Application: Must include last 7 years of work history with explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually

Competencies & Testing

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%+)
  • HIPAA Competency (annual, passing score 80%+)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for certain units; failure may result in contract review or cancellation
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required

This position is not open to local candidates or first-time travel nurses. Candidates must be prepared to work within a team nursing model and meet all certification, licensing, and compliance requirements prior to assignment start.
