Sterile Processing Tech Team Lead

Overview

  • Travel/contract role in Charleston, South Carolina
  • Temp-to-perm opportunity
  • Day shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
  • Holiday rotation required
  • Weekend work not required
  • May float between main sterile processing and CSC based on unit needs
  • May be required to float or be permanently switched to CSC, Main, or West Campus
  • Level I Trauma experience required
  • First-time travelers not accepted
  • Local candidates accepted case-by-case within 60 miles

Required Qualifications

  • Sterile Processing Technician experience within the last year
  • Sterile Processing Technician (3 years of experience)
  • One completed travel assignment
  • CBSPD or CRCST
  • Experience in supervisory roles

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems
  • Experience with neuro, GU, robotics, ENT, ortho, transplant, or GYN cases

Responsibilities

  • Supervise sterile processing staff across decontamination, prep/pack, sterilization, case carts, and sterile storage
  • Assign staff based on workload, case volume, and departmental priorities
  • Oversee instrument tracking, documentation accuracy, and inventory control
  • Coordinate daily sterile processing operations to support surgical and procedural case demands
  • Monitor tray turnaround times, instrument availability, and case cart readiness
  • Troubleshoot equipment, instrument, and workflow issues
  • Maintain clean/dirty workflow separation and infection prevention practices
  • Ensure compliance with AAMI ST79, AORN guidelines, CDC recommendations, and regulatory standards
  • Audit tray assembly accuracy, count sheets, peel packs, and labeling
  • Address service concerns and participate in interdisciplinary meetings
  • Perform decontamination and sterilization of instruments, medical supplies, and equipment

Compliance and Pre-Start Requirements

  • Proof of 2 clinical references
  • Complete application/resume with PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Annual background check
  • Education verification required
  • Physical assessment for sterile processors required
  • CMP and CBC with differential required
  • Fit test required within 90 days of start and annually thereafter
  • Tdap required within 10 years of start or declination
  • TB test or chest X-ray required within 90 days of start
  • Drug screen required within 90 days of start
  • Color blind testing required
  • Orientation modules must be completed before start
  • Badge photo required before start
  • South Carolina state exclusion list required

Assignment Notes

  • RTO must be submitted at time of submission; no RTO approved after contract signing
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Parking pass costs $20 for nights and weekends
  • Travelers are assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season
