Job Description

Medical Surgical unit with occasional stroke patients
Experience needed with stroke patients and occasional Peritoneal Dialysis patients
Med/Surg staffing ratios:
- Days: 1:5-6
- Nights: 1:6-7

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in New York
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical experience, including experience within the last year
Experience with stroke patients
Experience with Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) patients
ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Harassment Prevention Training Certificate
Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

Certifications & Training

BLS (AHA strongly preferred)
ACLS (AHA strongly preferred)
PALS (AHA strongly preferred)
TNCC (if applicable for ER staff)
NIH Stroke Certification (valid for 2 years)
New York Harassment Prevention Training (annual)

Competencies

Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score)
Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor Med/Surg unit; expires every 3 years)
Color Blind Testing (required prior to start)
Other competency exams as applicable

Health & Compliance Requirements

Physical exam within 1 year of start
Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types required)
Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with specific documentation requirements)
Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start
Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
Pneumonia vaccination or declination

Additional Information

Only one holiday off allowed during contract
Total time off (RTO) limited to 7 days or less
Local candidates within 75 miles radius may be considered
Required to complete facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift
Must submit a professional photo for badge
Required to sign facility-specific job description and welcome packet acknowledgements
Two professional references required (within 3 years) for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles
