Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Burlington, Vermont
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks


Job Description

  • Assignment duration: 16-32 weeks
  • Position in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - Telemetry
  • Floating required within central PCU pool; travelers float first
  • Flexible scheduling required, including minimum every other weekend or adjusted schedules to meet unit and patient care needs
  • Work schedule: Monday to Sunday, no block schedules
  • Must be able to explain any employment gaps over 90 days
  • Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended due to lack of public transportation; vehicles should have all-season or snow tires November through April

Required Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Vermont
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • Experience in a large Level 1 trauma, teaching facility required
  • Specialty experience in Cardiology, including post catheterization, STEMI, and structural heart patients
  • EPIC electronic medical record experience within the past 2 years (non-negotiable)
  • Certifications required prior to start:
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (must be completed prior to start)

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Orientation offered bi-weekly on Mondays
  • Complete and detailed work history required (including bed count, EMR, facility type)
  • Must complete EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start
  • Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
  • Primary source verification of state license and certifications within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • N95 fit test required prior to assignment and updated annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap within 10 years or titer
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray if positive TB
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
    • COVID vaccination or declination
    • Pneumonia vaccination or declination if assigned to NY facility
  • Drug testing may be required depending on facility location
  • Two professional references from assignments within the last 3 years required
  • Skills checklist within 12 months required
  • Work history verification for the past 2 years required
  • Must complete various facility-specific documents and attestations prior to start (e.g., abuse registry consent, emergency contact form, dress code and telephone usage policies)
  • Must comply with COVID testing protocol on Day 1 of work, including mask-wearing and social distancing requirements

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this assignment

  • Public transportation is not available in the area; reliable transportation is essential
