ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum 10 weeks for new contracts and extensions)


Unit & Patient Population

  • Specialty: Neuro ICU
  • Patient Diagnoses: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH), Subdural Hematoma (SDH), Tumor Resections, Status Epilepticus, and other neurologic disorders
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1:2; may float to other ICUs, PCU floors (med-surg patients, occasionally 6:1 ratios), ED, and PACU for admitted patients
  • Special Skills Required: ICP monitoring, EVD insertions, Neuro post-op care, A-line insertions, Intubation, Central line insertion, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Post-TPA and Post-Thrombectomy care, Dysrhythmia interpretation and management

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
  • Minimum 1.5 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, with ICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring

Work Conditions & Additional Information

  • No local candidates within 100 miles accepted
  • Weekend requirements vary by unit needs
  • No on-call required
  • Floating within scope of practice to other units may be required
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: Absences greater than 7 days require approval
  • Facility type: Level I Trauma, Teaching hospital, Children’s hospital, short-term acute care
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Parking: No fee
  • New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks
  • A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative work, whichever comes first
  • Overtime applies after 48 hours worked (effective 10/30/2025)

Orientation & Compliance

  • Orientation includes fingerprinting, Cerner training attestation (testing out possible for experienced Cerner users), and acknowledgment of safety manuals
  • Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam must be completed within 4 days of signing contract; two attempts allowed before cancellation
  • Candidates must complete medication/pharmacology competency exams with passing scores
  • Various facility-specific compliance forms and acknowledgments required prior to start

Transportation & Logistics

  • Valid non-local driver’s license required (identification cards not accepted)
  • Location is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation arrangements
