Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week (3x12 hours: 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM), including Saturday, Sunday, and one weekday
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Work primarily in the Main Operating Room of a Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital.
- Float within scope to meet facility needs, including sister units/facilities.
- Cases include Orthopedics (total joints, spine, trauma), Neurosurgery (crani, spine), ENT (flaps), Robotics (Da Vinci Xi), Transplants/Procurements, Trauma/Burns, GU/GYN.
- First-time travelers are accepted.
- Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be broken down but total no more than 1 shift.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
- Certification as a CST or NBSTSA.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Valid Driver's License.
Additional Information
- Local candidates within 60 miles may be considered.
- Facility uses EPIC for charting.
- Parking permit required with a $20 registration fee for garage use.
- During hurricane season (June-November), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams.
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval.
- Facility is Magnet designated and nurse-driven with advanced technology.
- Facility has 21 OR suites covering all surgical specialties.
- Facility requires all certifications to be valid beyond 30 days from start date.
- Candidates must upload COVID vaccination records if available; COVID vaccination is highly preferred but not required. Declination form must be completed if not vaccinated.
- Respiratory safety clearance and fit testing are mandatory; PAPR devices are not provided by the facility.
- Radiation badges may take 5-7 days to process; candidates cannot start without them.
- Facility-specific first day instructions and online modules must be completed before orientation.
- All required documents (driver’s license, social security card, etc.) must be submitted prior to start.
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for a Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech working 3 twelve-hour day shifts per week in a busy, Level I trauma academic medical center. The role requires at least 2 years of experience, NBSTSA certification, and a radiation badge. Candidates should be prepared to work a variety of complex surgical cases and complete all required health screenings, certifications, and facility-specific onboarding prior to starting.
