Clinical Lab Scientist - Travel/Contract

Location: Mission Viejo, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (5 shifts per week, 8 hours each, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 40

Job Description

• Must have strong blood bank experience; this is a trauma hospital with frequent massive transfusions.
• Experience in hematology, chemistry, and/or blood bank required.
• Clinical shifts may be scheduled between two nearby locations; floating between sites may occur before or during shifts.
• Weekend shifts may exceed every other weekend to meet department needs.
• Scheduling requests due to outside employment will not be considered.
• Local radius for travel is 50 miles.
• Start date: ASAP.
• First-time travelers will not be considered; only strong candidates accepted.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) license in California.
• Minimum 2 years of Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) experience, including experience within the last year.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

• Acute Care Hospital with 488 staffed beds.
• Charting system: Epic.
• Free parking available.

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
• Education verification required.
• Drug screening (9-panel) within 12 months of start.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work with or without accommodation.
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months; must be updated annually.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination/documentation.
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or declination.
  • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies.
• Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.
• Fit mask testing required unless exempted (not required for Medical Lab Scientists).

Documentation and Training

• Must submit government-issued photo ID and Social Security card as applicable.
• Must complete required Epic training modules after access is granted.
• Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required via LMS platform.
• References: Minimum of 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
• Employment application covering at least the last 5 years required.
• Skills checklist required annually for applicable units.

Additional Notes

• Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period.
• Scheduling accommodations for block schedules are at manager discretion.
• Candidates must submit return-to-office (RTO) restrictions at time of submission.
• Candidate photos for badges required prior to start.
