Job Opportunity: Speech-Language Pathologist (Pediatrics) - Travel/Contract

Position Details

  • Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)
  • Contract Length: Approximately 18 weeks

Job Description

  • Work primarily in acute care settings with pediatric patients.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required, including at least 1 year in a hospital setting.
  • Experience in acute care is mandatory.
  • Preferred experience includes:
    • Children's hospital
    • Pediatric outpatient
    • Pediatric rehabilitation facility
    • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • Current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA approved, original card required at orientation)
  • Current and valid state license for Speech-Language Pathology
  • Valid government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License, State ID, or US Passport) matching professional license

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Speech Language Pathologist license in California
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Speech Language Pathologist
  • Speech Language Pathologist experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience in an acute care setting
  • Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist experience

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 30 days of start, including specific county and nationwide checks
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript required
  • Drug screening (standard 9-panel, excluding THC) within 30 days of start, negative results required
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required; onsite fit testing available as last resort)
  • Immunization and health screening requirements:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations accepted except medical exemptions)
    • Two negative TB tests (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-Spot) with specific timing requirements
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Hepatitis B: titer, series, or declination required
    • Varicella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required (history of disease not accepted)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or facility-specific declination required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended but not required as of current policy

Competency and Training Requirements

  • Unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exam with passing score of 80% or higher (completed through approved vendors)
  • Core training modules (Parts I, II, III) with passing score of 80% or higher, updated annually
  • Pass/fail testing on medication and telemetry exams during orientation (specific to nursing but may be relevant for clinical staff)
  • Cyber Security Awareness Training and Quiz (passing score 80%+)
  • HIPAA training modules and quizzes as applicable

References and Work History

  • Two supervisory references required, preferably from the most recent or second most recent employer
  • Current and updated resume covering the last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30 days or more must be explained
  • Verification of 7 years of work history required (third-party or in-house verification acceptable)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete various facility-specific documents and attestations prior to start.
  • Parking and uniform information will be provided; facility scrubs may be supplied or guidance given on acceptable scrub colors.
  • Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and fit testing may be required depending on department assignment.
  • Religious and medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination are available but require advance approval.
  • Candidates must complete an annual TB questionnaire and other health screenings as required.
