Registered Nurse (RN) – Central Registry Float

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide nursing care on general medical and surgical units with a diverse patient population.
• Manage patients with chronic illnesses such as COPD, Diabetes, CHF, and end-stage renal disease.
• Care for patients with GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases).
• Manage infections including pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, and C. difficile.
• Care for neurological patients (stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries) and those with mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
• Assist patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (laparoscopic cholecystectomy, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation).
• Perform assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and utilize electronic health records (Epic).
• Manage equipment including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, heparin and insulin drips, and telemetry monitoring.
• Use devices such as Pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, and SCDs for VTE prevention.

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks
• Patient ratios approximately 1:5-6
• Floating to other medical units as needed

Orientation & Training

• Jump Start orientation program:

  • 1 day general hospital orientation
  • Approximately 5 days nursing orientation including Epic training

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary nursing experience
• At least 1 year of MedSurg experience within the last year

Additional Information

• Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
• Must be able to float to other medical units as needed

This position is suitable for experienced MedSurg RNs comfortable with diverse patient populations and flexible floating assignments.
