Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Oncology

Location: Medford, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Weekend & Holiday Requirement: Yes
Orientation: Two 12-hour shifts (12 hours non-billable orientation during first week)

Unit Details

• Department: Medical-Surgical Oncology
• Unit Size: 32 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 4-5 patients per nurse
  • Nights: 4-6 patients per nurse
• CNAs available at a ratio of 1:8
• Floating to Heart Center, General Medicine, Post-Surgical, Ortho-Neuro units may be required
• Standby call for low census

Patient Care & Skills

• Patient population includes medical oncology patients; chemo certification required only if specified during interview
• Common tasks: general assessments, IV starts, portacath access, medication administration
• Competency required with chest tubes, central lines, and heparin drips
• RNs are not required to titrate drips or read telemetry strips
• Respiratory equipment used includes CPAP and High Flow

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience
• BLS certification required
• Oncology certifications preferred: ONS, CHPN, OCN
• Non-Oregon licensed RNs may be eligible for a 90-day temporary license if permanent license is not posted before assignment start

Additional Information

• Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling available
• Dress code: scrubs of any color allowed; no visible tattoos above shoulders; only nose stud facial piercing permitted; natural hair color required (no unnatural colors)
• Charge nurse present but rarely takes patient assignments

This position is suitable for experienced Med/Surg oncology RNs comfortable with night shifts and working in a structured, oncology-focused environment with specific certification preferences and orientation requirements.
