Required Qualifications

RN license
BLS
ACLS
NIHSS
Driver’s license required at submittal
Must pass an open-book orientation exam with a score of 90% or higher

Experience / Clinical Expectations

Stepdown / PCU nursing experience
Must be able to titrate drips
Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
May float to ICU if appropriate and experienced

Unit Details

22-bed stepdown unit
Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
Charge nurse takes a full patient assignment
Nursing assistants / patient care techs are present at a 1:10 ratio
Common patient types include heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke

Schedule Requirements

Cyclic scheduling
Every other weekend
1 major and 1 minor holiday

Additional Notes

Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
RTO must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
One 12-hour unit orientation shift is provided
