Overview
- Location: Pueblo, Colorado
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights
- Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Unit Details
- Med/Surg (ONC) - 2nd Floor
- 24 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
- Nurse aide ratio: 1:5
Required Qualifications
- RN license
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- NIHSS
- Must be able to titrate drips
- Must be able to work with the unit’s common titratable/set-rate drips, including analgesics for pain, anticoagulants for blood clots, and antihypertensives for blood pressure control

Unit Expectations
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling are allowed
- Full-time and part-time staff are expected to self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
- Holiday coverage is required
- Charge nurse takes an assignment
- No tele/monitor techs on the unit; RNs read their own strips
- Call or standby is determined by the nurse manager
- Floating is determined by the nurse manager and department needs; in an extreme need, may float within Zone 1
- Unit orientation details are assigned during the week of orientation
- Night shift orientation note: first to float; in an extreme need, may float within Zone 1
Clinical Context
- Common patient types include CHF, hypertension, chest pain work-ups, COPD exacerbations, asthma, pneumonia, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, gastrointestinal bleeding, and acute renal failure
- Respiratory equipment on the unit includes Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, and vents
