MedSurg RN

Overview

• Travel assignment in Bryan, Texas
• Specialty/unit: MedSurg (Tower 3), Med/Surg Tower 3 (3rd Floor)
• 37 beds
• 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Shift: 12-hour nights
• Hours: 36 per week
• Schedule is self-scheduling, with manager balancing
• Schedule is done 6 weeks at a time
• Every other weekend required
• Holidays rotate with core staff
• No call or standby requirement
• First to float between Bryan and College Station campus as needed
• May float to helping hands or tech work within RN scope

Required Qualifications

• Active TX RN license
• BLS
• NIHSS
• 1 year of MedSurg experience
• Recent charge experience within the past year
• First-time travelers are only considered if they have 5+ years of MedSurg experience
• May not have been directly employed full time, part time, or PRN by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years of MedSurg experience

Unit Details

• Primary surgical, ortho, and trauma unit
• Common patient types include elective surgeries, total joints, bariatric surgery, general surgery, trauma, CCU, COVID-non symptomatic, hospice/palliative, and severe SI cases
• No monitored beds on the Med Surg floors
• RNs are not required to read strips
• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Charge nurse may take an assignment if needed and would not take more than 2 patients
• Nurse aides: 3 on days, 2 on nights
• CPAP-home regimen
• May be asked to precept as needed by the unit

Orientation

• First day includes classwork, skills, policies and procedures, and Meditech training
• Then 2 to 3 shifts on the floor
• Night position orientation includes 1 day shift and 1 night shift
