Registered Nurse – Stepdown Intermediate Care
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: 22-bed Stepdown Intermediate Care
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Floating: Yes, as needed
- Call: No call required
- Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue
- Charting System: Cerner Powerchart
- Locals not accepted; candidate must live at least 50 miles away from the facility
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Check: Within 90 days of start, covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in; includes SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender checks, and education verification
- Education Verification: Diploma or transcript required
- Physical Exam: Required with physician statement form
- Fit Mask Test: Required within 1 year of assignment start; accepted mask types include 1860 Regular, 1860 Small, and 1870+; PAPR training provided if unable to pass fit test
- TB Screening: Negative 2-step PPD or Q-gold within 1 year; T-spot tests not accepted; if positive PPD, chest x-ray within past 12 months required
- Immunizations:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Titer or 2 vaccines; booster if low titer
- Varicella: Titer or 2 vaccines; booster if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination
- Drug Screen: Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cannabinoids, MDMA, methamphetamines, buprenorphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, cocaine, methadone, tramadol, benzodiazepines, morphine/opiate)
- Flu Vaccine: Required prior to start or approved medical/religious exemption; documentation must be on file by December 15
- Employment Application: Required prior to start
- Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement: Must be completed before start
- Facility-specific modules: 70-80 modules (~8-10 hours) due by Friday before start; paid time for completion; no modules required if worked at facility within past year
Additional Notes
- No early July time off approved due to restricted return-to-office policy
- On-site EKG exam and cardiac rhythm review required only for Monitor Techs (not applicable for this RN role)
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position
