Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Position Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1:6
- Unit Type: Medical Surgical / Telemetry
- Facility Size: 18 beds

Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New Mexico (pending licenses not accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Medical Surgical or Telemetry
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or equivalent)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or equivalent)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification (AHA or equivalent); can be obtained onsite within the first week
- Prior travel experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during work hours)
- Proof of E-Verify or Attestation
- Background check: 7-year criminal history check within one year of start, updated annually; includes SS trace, counties, nationwide, sex offender, and facility-level checks
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
- Physical exam within 12 months confirming ability to meet physical demands
- Fit testing for masks conducted onsite during orientation
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- TDAP within past 10 years (declination only with valid medical reason)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually; chest X-ray required if history of positive TB
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required for low titers; medical declination only
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); unvaccinated must wear mask at all times during flu season
- Drug screening:
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS verification required for RNs)
- Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) with passing score of at least 80% prior to start; Relias platform highly recommended
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Complete employment application/resume with 7-year work history including locations, gaps, and end dates in MM/YYYY format
Additional Facility Requirements
- Completion and signing of various facility-specific documents prior to start, including:
- COVID vaccination declination form (if applicable)
- TB questionnaire
- Code of conduct, confidentiality agreement, behavior standards, IT guidelines, emergency contact information, photo release, and mandatory education orientation attestations
- Professional photograph for badge (clear, close-up, solid background; no selfies or filters)
- Influenza vaccination consent or declination forms
Notes
- PALS certification may be completed onsite during the first week if not already held
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) and TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certifications are not required for this position
- Candidates must comply with a 75+ mile radius rule for travel
- No pending licenses accepted
- Onsite fit testing required during orientation
This position offers an opportunity for RNs with Medical Surgical and Telemetry experience to work nights in a critical access hospital setting with a supportive patient ratio and comprehensive orientation and certification support. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
