Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbia, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Hours per week: 36
  • Float between ICU and Medical-Surgical units
  • Work every other weekend and 50% of holidays
  • No local candidates within 50 miles accepted
  • Physically active role requiring ambulation, reaching, and moving objects over 20 lbs
  • Exposure to patients with contagious illnesses
  • Rotating shifts, holiday work, and work during inclement weather required

Required Experience & Skills

  • ICU experience with strong neurological focus
  • Stroke experience is required
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Missouri with primary source verification within 60 days of start
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC Provider card required
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC Provider card required
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) preferred but not required
  • NURSYS verification required within 60 days of start
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred but not required

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • 7-year background check required within 60 days of start, including alias search, counties lived/worked/school, national and federal criminal searches, sex offender search, social security trace, and exclusions lists (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
  • International background check required if candidate has traveled outside the USA in the last 7 years (exceptions apply for certain military personnel)
  • Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) or Missouri Caregiver search must be on file within 60 days before starting (cannot start with both pending)
  • Drug screening: Negative 7-panel drug test required within 60 days of start
  • Photo ID (driver’s license or state ID) required
  • Employment application with detailed 7-year work history and education information required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, initiated within 48 hours of signing
  • Fit mask test valid within 1 year (specific mask models required)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years or approved medical/religious exemption
  • Negative TB test (QGold, TSpot, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year, updated annually; chest x-ray required for positive TB history
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines required; no declinations accepted, medical exemptions require facility approval
  • Hepatitis B: Complete series or positive/reactive titer required; declinations no longer accepted for new candidates after 7/1/2023
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted, medical exemptions require facility approval
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)

Essential Job Functions

  • Ability to work full term at assigned location
  • Ability to work full shift hours, take call, work assigned weekends, and at least 50% of holidays during contract

Additional Notes

  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement and Core Competency testing required for subcontractors
  • Medication and competency exams required as applicable
  • Photo for badge required for new candidates only
  • Candidates must comply with facility-specific forms and documentation related to TB, flu exemptions, and employment eligibility

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
  • Minimum of 2 years Neuro ICU experience, including experience within the last year
  • Stroke care experience
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
