Role Overview

• Travel/Contract RN assignment on a 6S Ortho/Med Surg Overflow unit.
• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
• 36- or 48-hour weekly contract options available.
• Patient ages are 18 and older.
• Typical patient ratio is 1:4, with occasional flex to 1:5.
• Unit uses a team nursing model.
• Remote telemetry monitoring is used, with an off-unit station staffed by tech.

Unit Focus

• Patients include those recovering from bone and joint reconstructive surgery, joint replacement, orthopedic trauma surgery, and sports injuries.
• The unit also serves Med/Surg overflow patients.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in West Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Driver's License
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• Orthopedics experience
• IV insertion skills
• Experience with titratable or cardiac IV medications (Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Argatroban, Amiodarone)
• Experience with Dopamine administration for renal perfusion
• Experience with CPMs (Continuous Passive Motion devices)
• Experience with Orthopat
• Experience with Constavac
• Experience with Hemovac
• Experience with Wound Vacs
• Experience with traction

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS.
• NIH.

Scheduling and Float

• Every other weekend required.
• Clinician can be floated within scope to meet facility needs.
• Blocked schedule requests may be accommodated if they fit unit needs.

Compliance and Onboarding

• Flu vaccination or approved exemption is required during flu season.
• COVID vaccination is not required.
• Tdap is required.
• Negative TB testing is required before start.
• Drug screen is required before start.
• Fit testing is required before start.
• Physical exam is required before start.
• One reference is required from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse.
• Annual specialty skills checklist is required.
• Nursing candidates must complete medication/pharmacology competency testing and pass/fail testing.
• Orientation includes two days: Thursday and Friday.

• No locals accepted; 100-mile radius rule applies.
• Parking is free for travelers.
• Cerner is used for charting.
