Registered Nurse - Employee Health (Contract)

Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 15 weeks
Shift: Varied – predominantly 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM, Monday–Friday (including several weekends)
Hours per Week: 37.5 hours

Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality ambulatory care nursing based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice to patients and their families. Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Deliver nursing care using Relationship Centered Care principles and the nursing process.
• Assess and evaluate patient needs, applying critical thinking in care management.
• Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

• Facilitate patient-centered actions such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
• Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening in all interactions.

Quality and Safety

• Practice safe, efficient patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
• Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
• Escalate safety hazards or gaps following institutional protocols.
• Document nursing practice accurately to support quality and performance improvement.

Operations

• Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
• Coordinate supply and inventory management with nursing leadership.
• Escalate material or staffing shortages as needed.
• Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Professional Development

• Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Advance clinical competence and nursing expertise.
• Demonstrate professional communication and ethical decision-making.
• Engage in lifelong learning, scholarship, and innovation.
• Participate in shared decision-making through specialty councils and committees.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Minimum 1 year of ambulatory care nursing experience within the last year.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Experience in vaccine administration.
• Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience.
