Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Position

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Float RN position covering general medical and surgical units.
  • Patient population includes chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, IBD), infections (pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. diff), neurological conditions (stroke, dementia, TBI), and mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
  • Patients may undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation).

Responsibilities

  • Provide general medical-surgical nursing care including assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
  • Utilize electronic health records (Epic), IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, and manage heparin and insulin drips.
  • Manage IV therapy and use equipment such as pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, SCDs for VTE prevention, heating/cooling pads, and telemetry monitoring.
  • Float to other medical units as needed.
  • Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.

Schedule

  • Night shift: 7pm to 7am
  • 12-hour shifts
  • 36 hours per week
  • 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Orientation & Training

  • Jump Start orientation program: 1 day general hospital orientation plus approximately 5 days nursing orientation including Epic training.
  • 8 hours of non-billable orientation (not applicable if returning within 12 months).

Additional Information

  • Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs.
  • Local candidates (within 50 miles) accepted with a rate adjustment.
  • Client may cancel assignment up to 24 hours before start during the 13-week contract.

This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg RNs comfortable with floating and working night shifts in a large hospital environment.
