Registered Nurse (ER/Medsurg Swing)

Location: Breckenridge, Minnesota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days and Nights (12-hour shifts, 7a-7p and 7p-7a)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Schedule: Rotate day/night shifts, every other weekend required, holidays required if they fall on scheduled shift
Orientation: Unit/department-specific orientation provided

Unit and Patient Care Details

• Department: Emergency Room (ER)
• Trauma Level IV, STEMI receiving, and Stroke designated center
• ER holds intermixed within the ER
• Separate psychiatric/seclusion rooms available
• Average ER patient volume: ~10 patients per day
• No fast track or separate triage area; travelers do not perform triage
• Charge nurse present each shift and takes patient assignments
• On-call nurse aids/EMT/paramedics/patient sitters available; no fixed ratios
• No Respiratory Therapist (RT) coverage 24/7; RNs troubleshoot RT equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow)
• RNs required to read their own cardiac monitor strips (Mindray monitors)
• Lab staff perform phlebotomy and transport for X-ray/CT

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room experience
• Previous Medsurg experience required
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Minnesota

Additional Information

• No clinical involvement outside of nursing duties
• Floating required to Med/Surg and Swing bed units on the same floor
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
• Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and may not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any related facilities within the past year
• No call or standby requirements
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling may be considered

Notes

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
• Security is not housed in the ER 24/7
• Respiratory therapy tasks such as ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs are performed by RNs due to lack of RT coverage in the ER
