Registered Nurse (ER/Med Surg) - South Dakota

Job Details

• Specialty: Emergency Room (ER) and Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) Nursing
• Unit size: 25 beds total; ER unit has 5 beds
• Patient load: Med Surg nurse-to-patient ratio typically 3-4:1 depending on census and acuity
• Shift: 12-hour shifts, rotating day and night
• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday required
• Call: 3 call shifts required during the 13-week contract
• Floating: Nurse will float between ER and Med Surg units
• Diverse patient cases, approximately 4,000 cases per year

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Minimum 2 years RN experience
• At least 6 months recent (past year) experience in Medical-Surgical nursing
• At least 6 months recent (past year) experience in Emergency Room nursing
• Certifications required before start:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required; can be completed onsite with approval
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Skills and Competencies

• Ability to function independently in the ER and manage up to 5 patients in Med Surg
• Experience with computerized charting and medication systems (Sanford One Charge, Pyxis)
• Must badge in and out at the facility

Training

• EPIC computer training
• 1 day ER training
• 1 day Med Surg training

• Dress code: Navy scrubs without logos; white undershirts or white lab coats allowed
• Candidates must disclose if they have previously worked for the facility; a 6-month gap is required before reapplying
• Candidates should indicate any required time off during the assignment in advance
