Role Summary
The Surgical Technologist supports perioperative care for ophthalmologic, otolaryngologic (ENT), head and neck, plastics/reconstructive, and related surgical procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required or obtained within organizationally defined timeframe
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of surgical technologist experience
- Experience in ophthalmology, ENT, head and neck surgery, plastics, or other surgical subspecialties
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain operating rooms for scheduled surgical procedures
- Perform surgical scrub duties and establish sterile fields using aseptic technique
- Organize instruments, supplies, equipment, and specialty items according to procedure and surgeon preference cards
- Scrub and assist in ophthalmology, ENT, facial plastics, and related procedures
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures
- Pass instruments, sutures, medications, implants, and supplies while maintaining sterility and efficiency
- Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and draping
- Perform and document sponge, sharps, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse
- Handle surgical specimens according to hospital standards and regulatory requirements
- Assist in room turnover to support efficient surgical throughput and patient flow

- Maintain a sterile field and address breaks in technique
- Participate in Universal Protocol, patient identification, procedural verification, and surgical time-out processes
- Adhere to AORN standards, infection prevention guidelines, Joint Commission requirements, and organizational policies
- Support regulatory readiness and departmental compliance efforts
