ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM / Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Work in a Transplant ICU setting.
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity.
  • No on-call duties; on-call every other weekend (EOW).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in District of Columbia (must be active prior to start date; pending status accepted at submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • Skills and experience in:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Multi-system organ failure
    • GI surgery care
    • Chronic and acute renal failure management and IV therapy
    • CVA/acute stroke management
    • External ventricular drains (EVD)
    • Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun
    • ICP monitoring
    • Post-neurosurgery management
    • Spinal cord injury care
    • Traumatic brain injury care
    • Respiratory and thoracic care
    • Phlebotomy

Competency Requirements

  • Must successfully pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with:
    • Minimum overall score of 80%
    • 100% score on lethal rhythms section
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency must be current within 1 year and updated annually.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform duties without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon, or T-spot) within 1 year; if history of TB, additional documentation required.
  • Up-to-date immunizations or titers for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
  • Tdap vaccine within the last 10 years preferred.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept–March).
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start and annually thereafter (client may complete onsite if needed).
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), covering multiple substances.

Background and Compliance

  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to start and ongoing.
  • Education verification for highest degree required by position.
  • I-9 and E-Verify attestation required for all candidates.
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years.
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information.
  • Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually.

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must provide a clear, professional photo for badge issuance.
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (SITELS) required before hire date.
  • Valid driver’s license required if driving on behalf of the employer is an essential job function.
  • Must comply with all facility-specific policies and annual recertifications as applicable.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU Registered Nurses with strong critical care skills and the ability to work flexible shifts in a transplant ICU environment.
