Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Job Details

• Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
• Schedule: 36/36 (36 hours on, 36 hours off)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Call: No call required
• Float: Required to float to other units as needed
• Patient Ratio: 1:7

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Orientation & Work Conditions

• General orientation begins on Sundays; includes 16 hours of non-billable online compliance training
• Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
• Additional shifts beyond the work commitment may be flexed or canceled based on census without penalty
• Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical duties

Location & Housing

• Traveler must live within 100 miles of the facility

Required Certifications & Compliance

• Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA Instructor or Provider, RQI accepted
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – check unit requirements
• Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC) may be preferred depending on unit but not required for this role
• State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required
• Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement required

Background & Health Requirements

• Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Education verification required
• Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for Tennessee-licensed candidates
• Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
• Drug screening: Standard 9-panel drug test within 14 days of start
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or declination)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
  • Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
• Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31) with facility-specific documentation
• Respirator fit testing completed onsite; must comply with CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Photo for badge must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing (neutral background, no filters, no visible facial piercings/tattoos, hair neutral color and not covering face)
• Completion of facility-specific forms and dress code review required within 24-48 hours of contract signing
• Completion of contaminated sharps and body fluid exposure statement required; Hepatitis C titer required if exposure history indicated
• Respiratory medical clearance and respirator medical evaluation questionnaire must be completed promptly

• Medication/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
