Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse

Position Details

Specialty: Registered Nurse (Stepdown Unit)
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
On-call: Not required
Floating: Required to float within scope to like units/sister facilities as needed (agency staff float first)
Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
Local Radius: 60 miles
Locals Accepted: No

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in South Carolina
Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year
Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, statewide and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification required for RN license
Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
Health Requirements:
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination), Tdap within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold; T-spot not accepted)
- Annual TB questionnaire completion
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
- Respirator medical clearance annually via RespSafety questionnaire
References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
Performance Evaluation: Required within 12 months of start
Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers (exceptions apply)

Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 4 hours for this location
Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo required
Acknowledgments & Agreements: Candidates must review and sign facility-specific documents including assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, and HIPAA confidentiality agreement
User Access: User access request form must be completed
Additional Forms: Religious exemption form for COVID if applicable; radiation badge process if required by unit (not typical for stepdown)

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with prior travel assignments who hold a valid South Carolina RN license and required certifications, and who are comfortable working night shifts in a stepdown unit with a 1:4 patient ratio.
