Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Stepdown Unit)
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Required to float within scope to like units/sister facilities as needed (agency staff float first)
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: No
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

- Facility Type: Stepdown unit with 12 staffed beds
- Charting System: Epic

- Hurricane Season: June through November; staff may be assigned to emergency response teams during this period
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, statewide and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification required for RN license
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination), Tdap within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold; T-spot not accepted)
- Annual TB questionnaire completion
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
- Respirator medical clearance annually via RespSafety questionnaire
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Performance Evaluation: Required within 12 months of start
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers (exceptions apply)
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 4 hours for this location
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo required
- Acknowledgments & Agreements: Candidates must review and sign facility-specific documents including assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, and HIPAA confidentiality agreement
- User Access: User access request form must be completed
- Additional Forms: Religious exemption form for COVID if applicable; radiation badge process if required by unit (not typical for stepdown)

- Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed
- Facility does not accept local candidates for this travel assignment
- Candidates must upload all required vaccination and certification documentation into the facility’s system prior to start
- Facility may send travelers home if orientation modules are incomplete upon arrival
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with prior travel assignments who hold a valid South Carolina RN license and required certifications, and who are comfortable working night shifts in a stepdown unit with a 1:4 patient ratio.
