Pediatric Echo Tech (Cardiac Sonographer)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts (start times between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM)
Weekend Requirement: No
On-call Requirement: No
Floating: Yes, will float between hospital and clinic locations
Job Overview
- Perform pediatric echocardiograms with proficiency in scanning and interpreting complex congenital heart defects.
- Daily caseload: 4-10 studies per tech.
- Experience with GE Vivid 95 ultrasound machine and PACS system for full report entry preferred.
- No radiation badge required for this pediatric echo tech position.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an Echo Technologist.
- Echo Technologist experience within the last year.
- Experience working with pediatric patients.
- Current BLS certification.
- Registered Pediatric Sonographer credential required:
- ARDMS with PE certification or
- CCI certification.
Certifications & Licenses
- BLS: American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) certification required.
- PALS: AHA certification required for pediatric units.
- State License: South Carolina license or compact license required; pending licenses accepted with proper documentation.
- Background Checks: Comprehensive background check covering 7 years of residence/employment, including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches.
- Fit Mask: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually.
- Drug Screen: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start.
- Immunizations & Health Requirements:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form.
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or documented history with chest x-ray.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed.
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccination series, or declination.
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated.
- Education Verification: Diploma or transcripts preferred; education verification required.
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations.
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required.
Competencies & Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable.
- Color blindness testing required prior to start.
- Competency exam required; pediatric OR competency exam preferred but regular OR competency exam accepted if no pediatric experience.
Additional Requirements
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge (frontal view, solid light background, business casual attire).
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours).
- Must complete and upload all required health and vaccination documentation into the facility’s system.
- Travelers assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June-November), with peak activity in August and September.
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks; guaranteed hours otherwise.
- Local radius: 60 miles; locals accepted on a case-by-case basis.

- Floating between hospital and clinic locations is expected.
- No weekend or holiday shifts required.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
- First-time travelers are welcome.
