Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery (RN-L&D)
Location: Bakersfield, California
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3 Day shifts and 1 Night shift open (12 hours per shift)
Schedule Notes: Traveler must float; no block scheduling
Job Description
- Independently provides nursing care to acutely ill patients in Labor & Delivery under nurse leader supervision.
- Performs nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe, therapeutic care.
- Creates a compassionate, patient- and family-centered environment supporting mind, body, and spirit healing.
- Collects and documents patient data; interprets assessment data to identify physiological and psychosocial risks.
- Collaborates with patients, families, and healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Prioritizes nursing actions using education, experience, and critical thinking.
- Establishes nursing diagnoses and revises care plans as needed.
- Responds quickly and appropriately to rapidly changing patient conditions and emergencies.
- Coordinates care activities with nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers.
- Adheres to evidence-based practices, therapeutic standards, infection control policies, medication administration, and controlled substance regulations.
- Participates in staff meetings, professional governance, and ongoing education to maintain nursing competencies.
- Complies with RN scope of practice, ANA Code of Ethics, and California Nurse Practice Act.
- Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in caring for the patient population served.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum of 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Heart Monitor (FHM) certification.
- AWHONN Maternal Fetal Triage Index (MFTI) certification.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience with Cerner electronic medical records (EMR) system.
Additional Information
- Must be able to float between assignments.
- No block scheduling; flexibility required.
- Completion of all mandatory competencies and educational coursework required.
- May require possession and maintenance of specific certificates depending on assignment.
