Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery (Travel Contract)
Location: Austin, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Hours per Week: 36
Call Requirements: No on-call required
Weekend Shifts: 4 weekend shifts per schedule
Unit Overview
- Level 4 designated maternal center providing the highest level of care for complex patients at any gestation.
- 22 beds total (16 labor beds).
- Approximately 100 staff including RNs and support personnel.
- Typical night shift staffing: 1 charge nurse, minimum 2 surgical techs, 1 unit clerk, and staff RNs to census (usually 9 staff on weeknights, 7 on weekends).
- Patient ratios typically 1:2 or 1:1.
- Electronic Medical Records systems used: CPN and Meditech.
- The unit is undergoing renovations to update all rooms.
- The leadership team is experienced and supportive, with managers and directors willing to assist in patient care when needed.
- Recognized as America’s Best Maternity Hospital 2023 by Newsweek.
- Only hospital in Texas with straight A’s from Leapfrog since inception.
- Highest level of maternal care designation in Texas.
Job Description
- Seasonal travel contract for Labor and Delivery RN.
- No on-call required.
- Work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Must be able to multitask and adapt quickly.
- Dress code: navy blue scrubs required.
Typical Procedures Performed
- Vaginal and Cesarean section deliveries
- Tubal ligations
- Cerclage placement and removal
- Dilation and curettage (D&C)
- Cesarean hysterectomy (C-hyst)
- Placenta accreta spectrum disorder (PASD) cases
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year
- Experience working with high-risk maternal patients
- Experience working with maternal-fetal patients
- Certifications: ACLS, AWHONN, BLS, NRP

- Experienced in high-risk maternal care.
- Skilled in operating room circulation and triage.
- Team player with ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to handle multiple tasks and change directions quickly.
Additional Information
- Permanent positions available on nights and weekends.
- The unit uses standardized order sets and has a comprehensive policy and guideline book.
- The unit recruits travel RNs, local CNAs, and sitters.
- Candidates without required skills will not be considered.
- Preference given to candidates with more than 5 years of experience, but minimum is 1 year.
