Unit Details
- Unit name: 7th, Trauma Med/Surg
- Building: Main
- Beds: 34
- Patient ratio: 6:1
- Support staff: Tech support on day and night shifts; unit secretary 7a-7p
- Equipment: IV pumps, telemetry, SCDs, continuous pulse oximetry machines, feeding pumps, PCA, EKG machines, bladder scanner, iMobile communication technology
Schedule and Floating
- Schedule: 3 x 12-hour shifts per week; 2 weekends (4 shifts) per 4-week schedule
- Floating: Contract labor is first to float; when multiple contract staff are scheduled, floating follows rotation
Facility Certifications
- Comprehensive Stroke
- ACS Verified Level II Trauma Center
- Certified Chest Pain Center
Required Qualifications
- Active, valid RN license in Tennessee
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS certification
- Med Surg experience (2 years)
- Med Surg experience within the last year
- Starting IVs and IV insertion skills
- Experience with basic wound care
- Maintenance of surgical drains
- Experience with nasogastric (NG) tubes
- Maintenance of chest tubes
- Ability to prioritize care and multitask
Patient Experience Expectations
- Provide attentive and compassionate care to patients and family members
- Give bedside shift report
- Make personal connections with patients and include patients and family members in the plan of care
Dress Code
- Navy scrubs, tops and bottoms
