Clinical Lab Scientist (Laboratory) - Travel/Contract

Location: Whittier, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 5 days/week, 8 hours/day (possible start times: 7:00-15:30, 8:00-16:30, or 9:00-17:30)
Hours per Week: 40

Job Summary

• Lead/Manager role in clinical laboratory with preferred management experience.
• Must have at least 5 years of laboratory experience overall.
• Minimum 3 years of blood bank experience required.
• First-time travelers are acceptable.

Required Skills & Responsibilities

• Hospital clinical laboratory operations.
• Blood banking procedures including:

  • ABO/Rh typing, Antibody Screen & Identification
  • AHG Crossmatch, Electronic Crossmatch, Immediate Spin/IgG Crossmatch
  • Antibody Typing (Tube Method), Antigen Typing
  • Blood irradiation, Cold Agglutinins, Cord Blood Evaluation
  • Direct and Indirect Coombs Tests (DAT)
  • Rhogam Screening, Thawing/Cooling of Blood Products
  • Transfusion Reaction Workup
• Patient identification process.
• Reporting test results, blood specimen storage.
• Quality assurance and controls.
• Hazardous materials handling, proper disposal, and labeling.
• Transmission-based precautions.
• Experience with EPIC system preferred.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) license in California
• Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) with at least 5 years of experience
• Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) experience within the last year
• Minimum 3 years of blood bank experience
• BLS - Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association

Compliance & Documentation

• Must submit Return to Office (RTO) form at time of application.
• Government-issued photo ID required.
• Emergency contact form required prior to start.
• Facility-specific pre-start modules must be completed before assignment start.
• Photo for badge with white background required before start.
• References:

  • Clinical candidates require 2 professional references from manager level or above, validated within 2 years.
• Employment application/resume with at least 1 year relevant experience and 7 years work history required.
• Skills checklist updated annually required (not for non-licensed workers).

Additional Notes

• Rotating weekends and holidays; scheduling is open to negotiation.
• Background or license issues found during compliance will result in automatic cancellation.
• Pass/fail testing and competency exams may be required as applicable.
• Management experience preferred but not mandatory.
