Pros
Some of the co-workers were always willing to help including the charge nurses. Its was usually a 1 to 6 ratio, cost of living was better than Miami. I stayed at the In-Town Suites in a renovated 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment for like $1350 for the month. I was extremely close to the Valdosta mall and plenty of restaurants so that made things easier for me.
Cons
Comparing to where I use to work before, the Hospital was a bit behind with the Epic system. Some of the PCAs did not perform certain task like (finger sticks for the patients) so sometimes it felt like as a nurse, we were doing a little more than what we should be doing. To get insulin, you had to have someone co-sign for it and sometime everyone is so busy that you can't necessarily cover the patient as soon as you should. Some doctors were quite concerned about patients, while a couple of them required for us to advocate more for the patients to get certain tests and recommendations done. Although giving blood should be the same every where, The amount of blood pressures that had to be recorded AFTER administering it was "in my opinion" was too much. So depending on what you are used to, it can be a good place to work or it can be considered a cultural shock like it was for me.
