Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Shift Details
- Work on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
- Shifts are 3x12 hours, rotating day and night shifts:
- Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Shift rotation may be adjusted based on hospital operational needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year
- Current certifications required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (e.g., Driver’s License or State ID) must be carried on assignment.
- Background checks including a 7-year FCRA-compliant search, fingerprinting (FBI and BCI), and monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks. Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and updated annually. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions; latex allergy notification required if applicable.
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months of start and updated annually; PAPRs require approval if needed.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual questionnaire if history positive
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually; instant drug screens not accepted.
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.
Orientation & Training
- Completion of facility-specific online onboarding modules prior to start; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
- Baseline competency exams during orientation: medication administration (SafeMedicate) and ECG interpretation.
- Modules and training cannot be skipped; failure to complete may delay start.
- Candidates with less than 6 months gap from previous assignment at the facility may be exempt from some orientation requirements.
References & Work History
- Two professional references required from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
- Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
Additional Notes
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not required.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
