Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty
Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Registered Nurse, Direct Care
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide nursing care on a medical/surgical unit specializing in acute care surgical patients, including post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients as well as pre-transplant evaluations. The unit is a mixed stepdown and acute care floor requiring close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication administration. This is not a PACU or OR position.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage an assigned group of patients, documenting responses to nursing interventions and physician orders.
- Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
- Obtain and monitor physiological data, intervening as necessary.
- Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products.
- Communicate care plans with patients and families during hospitalization and discharge.
- Make referrals for patient care needs and delegate tasks to support staff.
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare team members.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
- Experience in an acute care setting
- Acute care surgical floor experience
Additional Information
- This position will not accept candidates with only OR experience.
- Nurses may be assigned to medical/surgical or stepdown patients depending on unit needs and skill set.
- ICU nurses floated to this unit will work with stepdown patients based on acuity.
