Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Night Shift

Location: Olney, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (5:30 PM – 6:00 AM)
Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Job Summary

Provide comprehensive respiratory care under physician and respiratory therapy leadership, including ventilator management, airway maintenance, oxygen administration, and cardiopulmonary support.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer oxygen using various delivery devices.
• Set up, initiate, and maintain ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and Opiflow devices; evaluate patient response.
• Assist with intubation and manage airway maintenance including endotracheal and tracheostomy care.
• Perform care during and after extubation.
• Initiate and maintain CPR and other life support procedures.
• Collaborate with physicians to interpret and carry out respiratory therapy orders.
• Administer respiratory therapy medications and monitor for side effects requiring physician notification.
• Use equipment for positive pressure, humidification, nebulization, and medication delivery safely and effectively.
• Employ techniques to remove bronchial secretions (hydration, breathing exercises, postural drainage, chest percussion, suctioning).
• Perform pulmonary function testing and use related equipment (if trained).
• Perform 12-lead EKGs and prepare for physician interpretation.
• Supervise certified and non-certified technicians as needed.
• Maintain, dismantle, and reassemble respiratory therapy equipment safely.
• Adapt clinical approach to meet age-specific patient needs.
• Work independently and provide shift supervision when required.
• Perform arterial punctures and arterial line draws per guidelines and competencies.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Illinois
• Respiratory Therapist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate’s degree or Certificate in Respiratory Therapy
• NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Experience in ventilator management and airway management
• Respiratory Care Practitioner experience

Additional Information

• Must be able to work night shifts (5:30 PM to 6:00 AM).
• Ability to work independently and supervise others when needed.
• Sensitive to patient age-specific needs and adjusts care accordingly.
