Job Description
- Float Pool RN position requiring willingness to float to 8 different units within the hospital.
- Responsible for cardiac monitoring, cardiac drips, and reading telemetry strips.
- Night shifts and every other weekend schedule, totaling 36 hours per week.
- Units include various Med/Surg Telemetry areas, Emergency Department, Acute Mental Health Unit, and ICU (non-vented, transfer-ready patients).
- Patient-to-clinician ratio:
- Days & Evenings: up to 5:1
- Nights: up to 6:1
- Patient population includes ED border patients, acute mental health medication nursing, and telemetry patients.
- Bed counts in units range from 8 to 41 beds.
- Charting system: EPIC.
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 2 years of acute care hospital experience preferred.
- Telemetry monitoring skills including measuring intervals and interpreting strips every 4 hours.
- Experience with cardiac drips and reading telemetry strips.
- TR Band experience preferred.
- Must be willing to float across multiple units.
Licenses & Certifications Required
- Current Massachusetts RN License.
- AHA BLS certification (only AHA accepted for this facility).
- ACLS certification preferred but not required.
- Fit Test (N95 respirator) within 365 days of start date, updated annually.
- MGB Medication Exam: 80% passing within 365 days.
- MGB Dysrhythmia Exam: 80% passing.
- Influenza vaccine required during flu season (Sept 15 - April 30), no exemptions.
- MMR vaccination or proof of immunity.
- TB test documentation within 3 months of start date, updated if >6 month break.
- Health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA within 365 days of start date.
- Criminal background checks, including Massachusetts CORI and national sex offender registry.
- Other required verifications: education, SSN trace, exclusion checks, and references.
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to float to multiple units as part of the float pool.
- Documentation of immunizations and health screenings as per hospital policy.
- Completion of required skills checklists and submission paperwork prior to start.
- No religious or medical exemptions allowed for flu vaccine or fit testing.
Summary
This is a night and every-other-weekend Float Pool RN position in telemetry and med/surg units requiring at least 2 years of acute care experience, strong telemetry skills, and flexibility to work across multiple units. The assignment is for approximately 13 weeks. The role requires current Massachusetts RN licensure, BLS certification, and compliance with all hospital health and safety requirements.
